The Chiang Mai night market is a massive market located in the centre of the old walled city area of Chiang Mai. It operates every Sunday between 4pm and midnight. The market is enjoyed by both tourists and locals looking for bargains, delicious Thai food, or a cheap massage. The Sunday market is a venue for Northern Thai people to showcase their craftsmanship. Many of the vendors make and sell their own products, and the quality for most is amazing. Available goods range from silk scarves, cotton dresses, wood and ceramic statues, and more. It’s the perfect place to treat yourself and your friends.
In the evening, the market comes alive with a variety of street performers. I stopped for 5 minutes to watch a young girl perform covers of Adele’s Someone Like You – she was amazing. I was a little overwhelmed by the market during my first few minutes there because of how crowded it was and because I couldn’t find the person I was there with. After getting over my crowd phobia, I thoroughly enjoyed walking around and buying gifts for my loved ones. I can’t wait to return next Sunday!
